VisionScan turns a smartphone, tablet, or dedicated handheld scanner into a barcode terminal for Business Central. Warehouse users receive purchase orders, ship sales orders, transfer stock between locations, count inventory, and register project usage by scanning barcodes instead of typing item numbers and quantities into Business Central documents.

The mobile app talks to Business Central through a self-hosted VisionScan website. This help covers the Business Central side of VisionScan: the setup, the per-user configuration, the fields the app adds to your documents and journals, and the photo documentation it captures.

Key capabilities

  • Barcode-driven warehouse tasks - Receive, ship, transfer, count, and register project usage from a handheld device, writing straight back to standard Business Central documents and journals.
  • Per-user access control - Decide which areas each user sees in the app, and restrict them to specific locations or projects, from the User Setup page.
  • Posting automation - Choose per area whether a scanned document is left for back-office posting, posted automatically, or posted and printed.
  • Photo documentation - Capture photos on shipments, receipts, and master records, and view them from a photo factbox in Business Central.
  • Barcode label printing - Generate barcodes for items and stockkeeping units, and print labels ready for the warehouse.

Get started

  1. Install VisionScan from Microsoft AppSource or through your administrator.
  2. Open the VisionScan Role Center and choose Setup to configure the extension. To learn more, go to Setting up VisionScan.
  3. Publish the web service, then enable each warehouse user. To learn more, go to Enabling app users.
  4. Start scanning — for example, Receiving purchase orders or Shipping sales orders.
